20 Bible Passages about the Goodness of Motherhood

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them” (Gen. 1:27). God has given women the honor, joy, and responsibility of being a mother. Here are 20 Bible passages about the goodness of motherhood (all Scripture quotations from the English Standard Version):

God has designed creation so that only women are given the calling of bearing children.

1. The man called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother of all living. (Genesis 3:20)

2. Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. (Psalm 127:3)

3. For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. (Psalm 139:13)

4. Let your father and mother be glad; let her who bore you rejoice. (Proverbs 23:25)

5. And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.” (Luke 1:30-31)

Mothers have the joy and responsibility of loving and teaching their children.

7. Hear, my son, your father's instruction, and forsake not your mother's teaching, for they are a graceful garland for your head and pendants for your neck. (Proverbs 1:8-9)

8. My son, keep your father's commandment, and forsake not your mother's teaching. Bind them on your heart always; tie them around your neck. When you walk, they will lead you; when you lie down, they will watch over you; and when you awake, they will talk with you. (Proverbs 6:20-22)

11. And so train the young women to love their husbands and children. (Titus 2:4)

Mothers are to be honored by their children.

Motherhood is a blessing from God.
